9 Days in the Kingdom
For those with a slight interest in photography, I’m sure you have all heard about the 9 days in the Kingdom project, right?
The idea is that some of the worlds top, and when i mean top i MEAN TOP, have descended onto Thailand to shoot their version of what the Kingdom is from a photographic perspective. The images will then be printed as a book in December this year and presented as a present to the King on his 80th birthday.
Legendary Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom who is Bangkok born and bred will be shooting images and it will be interesting to see his take on this Kingdom, as he is well known to have a political edge to his images.
Another legend, and to be honest that word isn’t strong enough to describe him, is James Nachtwey who is the best war photographer still around. His images are so emotional to look at, it’s pure inspiration.
If all goes to plan, myself and a fellow photographer will be at the final drinks party tonight and will hopefully get to meet and interview some of our heroes.
Update
I went along with fellow photographer, and friend, Gregoire from BK Mag to the goodbye cocktail party tonight, held at Jim Thompsons house. What was amazing was not only did you get to brush shoulders with people who have been part of your inspiration to be a photographer, but as Greg pointed out, it was great to see seasoned photographers STILL taking party pictures of people enjoying food and talking.
After speaking to a handful of them about their individual projects within the Kingdom, I can honestly say this book will show other sides of Thailand that most haven’t seen. I myself cannot wait for the book to be published!
