Alex’s Restaurant
Bangkok’s known for it’s amazing variety of eating venues and Alex’s restaurant (Sukhumvit Soi 31) is a welcome addition to the crowd. Situated in this oh-so-hi-so area is a modern, minimalist style restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine.
Whilst the majority of readers here may be asking “What the hell is modern Australian?”, I can happily report it’s a twist of European and Australian taste’s according to Head Chef Annita. Obviously anyone who knows Australian’s know they like to travel and it’s these travel influences which add wonders to the menu.
It’s no secret that boring cocktails ruin any good venue, and Alex has taken the approach of creating DAMN good cocktails, including the Lady Marmalade, which has been added to my top 5 of all time cocktails.

The menu is well balanced, with a good wine menu, that caters for most tastes. Without a doubt, the main thing everyone should have is the Foie Gras with caramelised onions and jelly. Granted it’s about as unhealthy as you can get, but the taste is worth it.

The best part about Chef Annita’s approach is that she is a stern believer in desserts and the portions don’t end up taking too much room.
My tip for desserts, get the platter for 2 and share it yourself!
Although the restaurant is newly opened and we arrived late on a friday evening, bookings may be advisable as Alex’s can only get more popular.
I think Kitty said she went too. We all asked her (Aussies included), as you noted, ‘What the hell is modern Australian cuisine?’ She couldn’t really tell us.

what is wrong with chefs being creative i think someone has to come to oz. or maybe stick with the big MAC.
