Taboo

Although it’s considered taboo to say anything about the Thai royal family, I have to comment on the latest email making the rounds featuring a certain younger royal (ok, it’s ‘supposedly’ the daughter of the disowned princess*) bearing it all in a series of photographs. Every inch of her body (and parts that are on the border of being inside her body) is represented in ways I wish I only had to imagine!

Now that every Thai person hates me for bringing it up, even though everyone I know talks about it (in hushed tones), it must be said that I can neither confirm nor deny if it is really her (even though I’ve unwillingly seen the pictures). The fact is that even if it isn’t her, her reputation is tarnished forever – Thai people never forget.

* I’m not supposed to talk about how the princess was disowned by the king because she married a black guy from farangland either.

EDIT: Someone corrected me that the guy she married was actually white.

You’ve dug yourself in this far, why not post a link to the pics, or the pics themselves?

The pics aren’t available online (that I know of) and I don’t have the email myself.

    Sorry to disappoint!

    Ben

Talking in a negative way about (or defaming) the Royal Family is not just taboo it is a criminal offence in Thailand carrying a prison sentence of 3-15 years (Section 112 of Criminal Code). .

Defamation is given a broad meaning in Thailand so be careful about what you say.

    “What is Metroblogging?

Metblogs are a hyper-local look at what’s going on in the city. Our regional bloggers give each site a new perspective on daily life; less calendar listing, more friendly advice.”

    (from here)

“What kind of posts are you looking for on metblogs?

The best answer to this is to look at the city sites and see what the bloggers are already doing. The one rule is that all posts have to relate to that city somehow, but otherwise it’s fairly open to however each blogger sees their own city. ”

I don’t see “alienating an entire culture” in those descriptions. But it seems BKK metblog is more about commenting on and about Thais now, than anything else. If I count correctly (don’t quote me), about 6 of the last 10 posts have not been about Bangkok.
