It Has Begun

I blogged a while back about how Big Brother was coming to Thailand. It’s here as of tonight.

Big Brother Thailand musn’t be Thai since he has blue eyes.

Aside from the fact that everything (including the website) is in Thai, I can already feel myself getting addicted. It’ll be interesting to watch how Thai censorship affects the show since other Big Brothers have been popular because of the stuff you normally wouldn’t see, most of which wouldn’t be likely to get by the censors.

Something similar to the Big Brother format was attempted here last year called Academy Fantasia. I didn’t watch it because it was on UBC only but I did check out the extremely low quality live footage on the web.

If you look at the website for Big Brother Thailand (which is terribly designed and looks horrible), there doesn’t seem to be a live feed into the house. I hope they add this because it was a great feature from the other Big Brothers I’ve seen. I’m not sure if they plan on using the site the way other Big Brothers have, in that it would be the web portal to the show and have up to the minute with what is happening on the show.

You know who is watching.

try this link for online streaming: (upper right hand corner)

It looks like they’re using a single camera. The audio is horrible – it goes from loud to soft.

I would imagine, given the use penetration of broadband in Thailand, setting up a top notch web portal is a little pointless.

They have, however, set up a whole TV channel, dedicated to showing the BB show 24/7.

I remember the UK BB didn’t really have a worthwhile online presence untill 2001.

Good lord I just checked the website. Did they intentionally arrange for the majority of the contestants to be ugly howling moonpigs?

If this gets seen overseas, the view of thailand as having attractive people is going to be seriously compromised!

The only thing uglier than the contestants is that logo… what’s with that?

Are you sure this is real and not a high school april fool? :P

They are pretty horrendous, but I’ve thought the same about all of the housemates for every series of the Australian version.

The live web-feeds on the UBC Interactive site, which I’m watching now, are here (actual people talking) and here (the deserted corridor outside the bathroom and bedroom 1).
