seven days
the royal family has just issued a statement that all celebrations have been called off for the next seven days in lieu of the tsunami tragedy and the death of the king’s grandson.
the nation newspaper just finished their holiday weekend issue, and now have to pull all the stories. i’m not sure if they’re gonna can the whole issue altogether or not.
my friend is still stuck on the liveboard she took out for her scuba diving trip in the similans. my prayers are with her and all the families affected by this tragedy.
thank you for the update, teaz0r. was worried about how you are doing. thailand and other parts of south asia will be in my prayers tonight.
Does that mean that New Years celebrations are aborted now?
i heard from a source at the nation that the celebrations will be cancelled. but i still see it being advertised on tv. so i’m not too sure.
Nation is as unclear as ever (click here) – it reads as though governmental celebrations have been cancelled, but what constitutes that? I have no idea.
I don’t know if it’s the Nation or that “government spokesperson” Jakraphob – that guy is better than that Iraqi spokesman Comical Ali. Jakraphob was quoted saying dumb crap two weeks in a row in Time magazine international. Granted, he’s got some pretty weak material to work with, but he did take the job knowing this.
It’s standard procedure for most entertainment establishments to not serve alcohol and close early during a mourning period for a member of the royal family. Granted, Mr. Jensen wasn’t the highest profile royal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if much of the country observes the mourning period out of respect for the King and the Princess.
I also heard rumors that his sister was also down in Krabi, and is currently missing. Anyone able to confirm this?
lots of rumors always, but not heard the one yet about his sister.
the thaivisa forum has a section devoted to this event- amazingly enough someone posted the news about the grandson long before it broke. some well connected ‘frangs around.
