Fire and Ice

While I believe that about 90% of all drinks here in Thailand are completely undrinkable (except to Thais who appear to have been genetically modifed to enjoy chemical-sweet beverages), it’s a fact that doesn’t stop major players from introducing new, interesting and wrong flavours.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you… Pepsi Fire and Pepsi Ice. Fire is red and tastes kind of like Tizer (a soft drink in the UK, in case you have never heard of it). Ice… looks like anti-freeze and doesn’t taste much better.

It never fails to amaze me what little sense of history these soft drink companies have. The last time any new soft drink flavor had any lasting appeal was diet Coke in the late 80s. Every other brand extension (Vanilla Coke, New Coke, Pepsi Blue, Crystal Pepsi, etc etc) has either been a total flop, or generated some novelty interest and then died a slow death. After spending millions coming up with a new logo, and then millions more filming gladiator commericals with pop stars and soccer players, Pepsi has decided that the best way to win market share is to release flavors that can best be described as sweetened battery acid and window cleaner.

I do wonder how they might taste if you mix them up…

Hold on – Vanilla Coke is NOT a fad. It’s my life.

I’m more interested in the fact that your cans seem to be 325ml, while in North America the standard can size is 355ml.

    No wonder Asians live longer…

Oh yeah, I’m so used to the can (and bottle) size here that I forgot that it’s ‘different’ to everywhere else.

I’m still trying to get used to the metric system. It’s all about the 12 oz can and the 16 oz bottle, people!!

I just sampled Pepsi Fire, and man is that stuff foul. The taste is like really bad cough syrup, and once the aftertaste kicks in, I wanna cry.

    I’ll give Pepsi Ice a shot tomorrow…

Just tried Pepsi Ice. I could say that I like it better than Fire, but that’s like saying I like gonorrhea better than syphillis. I think I’ll stick with regular Coke & Pepsi, the classics.

    Hey Guys,
I am from the USA. I would be willing to buy as many Fire & Ice Pepsi cans you can ship. Anyone looking to make some extra $$$$$

    Thanks George
