Final hours of Suan Lum

Or should the title be “Power to the people…”

Tonight sees the Court imposed order for all stall-holders to remove their stock and selves from the Suan Lum location and cease trading. The problem is that those traders are standing firm and saying they won’t budge, in what could be the start of a fight between traders and the Crown Property Bureau.

It seems that Bangkok doesn’t have enough Malls and Hotels, so they will destroy one of the top tourist attractions in this city, to build some more.

I personally love Suan Lum, at least you get to purchase goods that haven’t had their prices inflated drastically to pay for 9 staff per customer (a.k.a the Siam Paragon approach to shopping) and it has it’s own culture, something that larger malls will never have.

It’s a shame that Suan Lum will be closing. It sad to see Thailand succumbing to the gold-fever that so many countries have bowed down to before them. Soon Thailand will sadly be just another duplicate of the so many other tourist-infested charter destinations I will never set my foot in again. A shadow of its great self. The once so fantastic never colonised country continues to colonise itself through its heroin-like addiction to the Western world and its rotten way of life..
It truly breaks my heart to witness it.
