Suvarnabhumi internet fees: 500 Baht an Hour

TOT is providing all telephone and internet fees at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Domestic and international calls supposedly follow regular rates, but if you want to use an internet cafe… it’s 500 Baht an hour.

Considering what internet fees are normally in Thailand, and the fact that most new airports now provide free Wi-Fi, TOT looks like it’s trying to get away with murder. Maybe tourists entering Thailand will pay the fee, but I don’t think anyone leaving Thailand would stand for that price.

I am flying through Suvarnabhumi next week, when I’m looking forward to seeing it and writing about it here also. Has anyone already been through Suvarnabhumi who would like to comment?

The fee is ridiculous!!!! 500 bahts per hour!? A true rip off!!! Can’t believe TOT is doing this.

My cousin went there a few days ago and she spent 2 hours driving around trying to find her way in. This is funny… but it really got me thinking if the next time I’m flying out of the country and if I get lost like her… I might as well decide not to go… 2 hours… it’s just way too funny.

Having travelled pretty much over the past 5 years, this is a growing trend and inline with most european airports.

Heathrow charges 5 pounds for 1 hour’s worth of access, and central europe isn’t far off.
The majority of business people will pay this, as it will be put down as expenses. My biggest beef with Internet access in Thailand is the complete lack of international bandwidth. True/Tot are all offering 4mb DSL, when they cannot physically support that kind of speed when accessing internationally based sites, and in most cases they will restrict the speed going out of the country anyway.
