Lets talk about Something Else

It’s been quiet here for about a week now, not for want of things to write about, but because there is so much political crap going down that I really don’t want to talk about.

So, how about that fashion week huh (last week)? I didn’t attend anything, but I read that there is optimism for the future of fashion in Thailand. Thailand does indeed have it’s own fashion sense and is capable of coming up with something original, rather than copying others (contrary to tourists might believe).

Feelings on Thailand being a central hub of fashion in Asia were not so generous, with most people saying that there was a very long way to go.

On a different topic, it’s been revealed that Roman Polanski will be opening the 3rd World Film Festival in Bangkok with his new film “Oliver”, based on Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist”.

The festival will take place on 14-24 October at Grand EGV (Siam Discovery) and Major Cineplex (Central World Plaza) with over 60 films from over 20 countries.

If you’re a lover of film like me, be sure not to miss it.

i didn’t attend anything either, but i did see some photos from the fashion week. from what i’ve seen, the clothes and the design looked pretty good, but, in my opinion, they still lacked some kind of distinctiveness that would set them apart. having said that, i do think they showed great promise.

there was this article i read, probably in IHT’s Thaiday, that quoted a critic who said that Bangkok could never become a fashion hub because of the weather, that is, we can never have a fall/winter collection proper. i thought that was kinda funny and interesting.

Can one buy tickets for the film festival online in advance? If so, where? I can’t find this information on thaiticketmaster or on the festival site itself. Thanks!

If previous film festivals are anything to go by, you can buy all the tickets you want on the day the festival starts (or possibly the day before).

Thailand hasn’t really worked out how to do advance ticketing properly yet, sorry!

    hi

about the film festival, like the above said, I can find general information but no specifics about place, time, date, or price, for the opening of the film festival. Will Oliver Twist be screened and will Roman POlanski be attending the opening? Or is he attending the other films?
Total mystery, but I’d really like to know enough information to be able to go.
Answers highly appreciated. Did try to email film festival but mail bounced back. Sigh.

    Film lover
