I must say dating in BKK and in the US is two completely different animals. I

from what i’ve seen… whichever “-so” you date. out of towners, bangkokers.
i totally had sex culture shock in thailand too. i grew up in thailand, but went to an international school and then lived abroad most of life. as a female, i was shocked to learned that my thai friends in thai school were having sex in high school. they asked me why i was shocked… theonly answer i had was … “.. b b but you’re .. t t thai … you’re not suppose to have sex in high school”.
but you know what? it’s pretty much the same everywhere, in the us, in tokyo, in vietnam, hong kong japan and yes, in thailand. it just seems more shocking i suppose, because it’s not so blatantly in the media and it’s not so common for girls to be open about their sex life beyond their circle of friends.. if even to their friends.
it’s great for the “proper in public, whore in bed” ideal.

I really don’t understand why Thai society likes to pretend that the younger generation isn’t wild and doing this kind of thing.
The worst of course is when they point at the western world saying “You’d never get THAT kind of thing in OUR Thailand”.
Maybe not in theirs, but it’s happening in everyone elses Thailand! :)

I had that “bu.t..t.t.” reaction maybe couple years ago, when my 15 year old cousin was telling me about his a 3 some he had.
But Asian culture has always been about proper outside, freak inside. the chinese believe in 3 things when it comes to obtaining a long lasting life… good food, good water, and good sex.

As someone who grew up in Thailand but now lives in the US, I totally cracked up, when my aunt in Bangkok decided she would allow my cousin to go to Australia, but not the US, for grad school, because in her opinion, in the US “people in the US are too wild and loose about sex, but in Australia, they are more ‘riap roy.'”
As a Thai leaving in Sydney Australia, I heard a about this sexual reputation. I’m not sure that here is more ‘riap roy’ than other cities, either. But I can’t pretend that Thais don’t have the reputation.

I tried asking a colleague exactly what riap roy means and they were kind of evasive. Can someone explain for me?

Hi
I am middle-aged – over fifty. I am also Danish … funny enough, when Thai people are thinking about my country “Denmark”, for the past 20 years they have ALWAYS mentioned three things they know about this small nation:
1. milk – 2. football – 3. and FREE sex
In my humble opinion, I have never seen so much “free sex” than I see here, although the Thai “culture” certainly doesn’t “promote” this area.

I was very interested in reading your story about dating in Thailand.
I also graduated from an American university, but it all depends on where you graduate from. Some American universities are wild, I was able to get together with some female students, but it wasn’t that easy. Then there are universities like Stanford, which is famous for having almost NO SEX.
I do agree with you that the guys benefit more than the women. Some Thai guys I met got so sick of “Free Sex” that they much rather have a high class prostitute, because they do a better job. Most Thai guys I met treat women like garbage, but I guess that should be common when the dating scene in Thailand benefits the guys more than the girls.
Going back to the original topic, I met a nice looking Thai girl. She is extremely shy and I was surprised that she wanted to be my girlfriend. If she was living in America, she would have no problems meeting decent guys, but if your ratio of the

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.

While I don’t dabble in the “freelove” college age scene, for the adults it seems there is no such thing as casual dating. You date it, you own it. Its like one date and *poof* she’s now your girlfriend. So either a guy dates and then has to break up with the girl after one date, if she’s not the “one”, or has to rent one – which is the no-strings-attached option but its not all that great either. And why are girls in thier mid-20’s and older still into “Hello Kitty” and pictures of fluffy puppies and stuff.
Sophistication is a good thing.
No offense intended.

Bangkok Taxis Bangkok Classifieds Always insist on the meter. If they refuse, get out. There will be another taxi along in about 2...
