beer and laws.
so i’m doing my midday shopping at tops. stocking up on water. 4 six-packs of 1.5 litre singha drinking water. 2 6-litre packs. i figured i’d splurge, and use the tops free home delivery service — they deliver all your stuff to your house for free if you spend more than a 1000 baht. so i’m buying all the shit that’s too heavy for me to carry. juice. green tea. and of course beer.
i get to the check out counter. and the cash register lady says to me. it’s only 16:53 i have to wait seven more minutes before you can put my beer through.
stupidest piece of shit law.
honestly. i didn’t know what was more embarrasing, holding up a line at a cash only line with no cash or holding up a line because i want to buy alcohol at four fifty fucking three pm.
i’ve never thought about the laws till today. i wonder if it also applies 7-11.
goddamit.
7-11 has got their own problems. apparently, they started selling cosmetics and health care products without the proper FDA approvals. tehy have to cease & desist, or face civil and criminal penalties
Yeah… but nothing beats the pub’s last orders in the UK at 10.50pm.
Funny how people never consider the laws to be either stupid or worthwhile, until they are affected by them.
I don’t think it’s the law that is stupid: licensing hours are, after all, licensing hours. What is stupid is that the woman at the cash register actually made you stand there for 7 minutes. She should have processed the rest of the line and made you return later.
But then, I’ve realised that people in this country arn’t exactly known for thinking around a problem.
Well, having come from a country that restricts the sale of alcohol from outlets like 7-11, I’m still getting used to the idea of having it available at all.
Having said that, I wasn’t aware that you could only buy it from 5pm. I’ll file that one along with the law that says bars and clubs have to close at 2am and, unless id is provided (via an unusual set of paperwork), you can only play online games until 10pm every night.
never did understand the difference between being drunk at 3PM and 7PM?
Ones legal, the other isnt :)
Since when do laws have to make sense? “laws” in thailand, doubly-so…
Damn. I couldn’t picture that. I have a hard enough time traveling in places where last call is at 2am.
I think you can buy beer around noon, but not in the afternoon.
