Winter in Bangkok
Grab your scarves and jackets, kiddies. Winter has finally hit the City of Angels!
Alright, so maybe 70 degree weather would hardly be considered even remotely winter-like to an American or European, but here in Thailand, once the temperature manages to dip into the low 70s, Thais all over the country can be found buttoning up their coats and bundling up in scarves. Yes, scarves.
I was at Central Ladprao the other day and was absolutely amazed to see the type of winterwear that was on display. And mind you, I’m not talking dainty little jackets here, but full-fledged, hardcore winterwear. Wool coats, knitted hats, leather gloves – you’d think a blizzard were about to hit this much loved tropical city of the Orient. And to add to it all, as I was walking to my car in the parking lot a little later on, I just so happened to notice more than one girl wearing a scarf around her neck to fend off the evening “chill”.
While it’s hardly considered very “winterly”, waking up to Thailand’s December mornings is heavenly. If weather in the LOS could be like this all year round, it’d be paradise. In fact, I’d never leave the country… yes, even if you paid me to!
*Gasp*
Surely not! Is that right now? I am going outside to check it out… this must be the coldest it’s been all year!
I know, it’s all so exciting. I’m practically quaking in my shoes :D (and socks… it’s winter, you know).
Brrr. soon I’ll have to stop wearing tshirts and start wearing..um… tshirts. damn. i dont have anything else.
Just as well that 22C is STILL HOT, eh?!
I can finally sleep at nights without wishing I had good aircon (rather than bad aircon).
now… that’s the kinda winter I’d wish to have! rather than this cold and rainy one here. I mean… if it’s gonna snow soon anyway, why doesn’t it just snow and get it over with!!!!!!! T_T i hate waking up in the morning and find that everything is wet (and cold) and knowing that soon it’ll be colder and with snow… just give me the worst now so I won’t have to think aobut it. T_T
i’m jealous of you. all of you. i miss thailand.
*sigh*
As I remember it…
The Cool Season in Thailand is a much anticipated respite from the Southwesterly Monsoon that also serves as a seasonal prelude to the oncoming oppressive heat and the onset of scrotal chafing.
Regarding fashion consumerism in Thailand – one word: เห่อ! (fad crazed)
